Shanghai Zoo is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Guide Shanghai Zoo is located in the western suburbs of Shanghai, adjacent to Hongqiao International Airport. Originally named Xijiao Park, it was renamed Shanghai Zoo in 1980. The zoo is home to nearly 600 species and over 6,000 rare animals, including China’s precious species such as Pere David's deer, giant pandas, golden snub-nosed monkeys, white-lipped deer, Siberian tigers, and Chinese alligators, as well as animals from around the world such as giraffes, kangaroos, penguins, hippos, sea lions, ostriches, cougars, and African lions. Shanghai has a rich bird population, with over 40 resident bird species staying year-round, and more than 150 migratory species visiting during summer and autumn, including beautiful orioles, blue-winged pittas, emerald doves, skylarks, thrushes, mynas, as well as familiar species like swans, cuckoos, and mandarin ducks. In addition, the zoo houses the first science education hall among zoos on the Chinese mainland. The zoo also regularly hosts animal performance shows.

March – October: 7:30–17:00; November – February (next year): 7:30–16:30. Opening hours may be slightly adjusted by season. Ticket sales usually stop half an hour before closing.
