Shanghai Fire Museum

The Shanghai Fire Museum is a national AA-level tourist attraction and a science education base.

The Shanghai Fire Museum is located at No. 207, Zhongshan West Road, Changning District, covering an area of approximately 2,400 square meters. The museum began trial operations on August 1, 2007, and officially opened on November 9. It is currently a top-tier domestic museum with world-class standards.

The Shanghai Fire Museum has a collection of more than 21,000 items, including many historically significant fire-related artifacts from modern Shanghai, such as early personal firefighting equipment, fire engines, and automated firefighting devices. Through displays in various exhibition areas, visitors can gain a comprehensive understanding of the development of Shanghai’s firefighting efforts—from inception to growth and ultimate excellence.

The Shanghai Fire Museum officially opened to the public on November 9, 2007. It is now a national science education base, a Shanghai-themed science venue, and a teaching site under the city’s second-phase curriculum reform.

The museum has three floors, with a total building area of 3,500 square meters and an exhibition area of 2,400 square meters. The ground floor lobby features a reception desk, along with exhibits such as a series of fire engine models, a water gun assembly titled “The Rising Mission,” an original wooden mechanical ladder truck from 1930, and a model of the 1908 MerryWeather steam fire engine.

The second-floor exhibition hall is a science and technology experience area where visitors can learn about firefighting knowledge and escape skills through interactive displays.

The third-floor exhibition hall is a historical display area that offers visitors a comprehensive understanding of the development of Shanghai’s firefighting efforts—from its beginnings to achievements—through a large number of historical objects, photos, and audiovisual materials.

Tuesday–Sunday: 9:30–11:30, 13:30–16:30 (last entry at 16:00); Closed on Mondays. No group visits accepted on Saturdays and Sundays.
