Residential buildings at Lane 115, Taian Road

The garden residences at No. 1–8, Lane 115, Taian Road face Weileyuan across Taian Road. Originally part of Chenjiaxiang Village, these British classical and Spanish-style semi-detached houses were built between 1912 and 1936 by German expatriates. Designed by Huang Maishi, the complex consists of three rows and nine buildings in total. The lane was originally home to senior staff of the Texaco Oil Company. On the eve of the liberation in 1949, all the expatriates had returned to their home countries. After the liberation of Shanghai, the residences were mostly occupied by military personnel and local officials.

Zhou Gucheng, a renowned Chinese historian, professor, and close friend of Mao Zedong, lived here for a long time at No. 6 in this lane.

The lane was designated as a Shanghai Municipal Cultural Heritage Protection Unit in 1989.
