Xiao Hong Memorial Hall

The Xiao Hong Former Residence Memorial Hall is situated to the west of Xiao Hong’s Former Residence and was opened to the public on June 6, 2011 (the fifth day of the fifth lunar month), marking the 100th anniversary of Xiao Hong’s birth. It has a total construction area of 2,050 square meters, with 1,600 square meters of exhibition space spread over two floors, both underground and above ground. The building has a simple and solemn appearance, using gray tile as its main color, which harmonizes with the former residence. The stepped windows resemble bookshelves, the overlapping roof looks like an open book, and the blue bricks on the walls seem like thought-provoking volumes, all narrating the legendary life of this female writer.

Inside the exhibition hall, modern techniques such as sound, light, and electricity are used to vividly and comprehensively present the life of Xiao Hong. The memorial also displays photocopies of letters written by Lu Xun to Xiao Hong and Xiao Jun, precious artifacts used by Xiao Hong such as a small wooden mallet and an iron trunk, as well as valuable materials including poems and calligraphy works left by notable individuals from China and abroad during their visits to Xiao Hong’s Former Residence.
