Harbin Normal University Museum of History and Culture

The predecessor of the Harbin Normal University Museum of History and Culture was the Cultural Relics Room of the History Department at Harbin Normal University. In the 1960s, renowned Chinese historians and scholars—including Professor Su Yuanlei and Professor You Shou from our university’s History Department—established the Cultural Relics Room to facilitate more intuitive history teaching and to provide authentic and reliable physical materials for the research of history and archaeology. Over the decades, through the continuous enrichment of the collection by senior historians and their successors, the scale of the museum gradually expanded. In 2005, it was renamed the Harbin Normal University Museum of History and Culture.

The Harbin Normal University Museum of History and Culture is a comprehensive museum that integrates history and art. The exhibits are arranged chronologically and categorized by type, interwoven to systematically showcase the profound and extensive Chinese culture through artifacts, rubbings, and photographs. Covering an area of 2,000 square meters, the museum currently houses a collection of over 3,000 cultural relics, including fossils, oracle bone fragments, stone tools, pottery, ironware, jade artifacts, bronze ware, lacquerware, porcelain, rubbings, coins, Buddhist statues, bronze mirrors, calligraphy, and paintings, among other categories. Spanning from ancient times to the modern era, the collection is both continuous in chronology and rich in variety, possessing high research and collection value.

The Harbin Normal University Museum of History and Culture is a vibrant and distinctive exhibition venue. Through continuous efforts, the museum has developed into an important platform for cultural heritage and moral education for the whole society. It serves as a Heilongjiang Provincial Science Education Base, a founding member of the Provincial University Museums’ Education Alliance, a Harbin Hulan District Science Education Base, a teaching and professional practice base for the History and Culture College and graduate programs at Harbin Normal University, and an economic historical materials research base for the Economics College of Harbin Normal University. Internally, it functions as a specialized teaching and practical training base for disciplines such as history, biology, art, foreign languages, economics, and management. Externally, it has evolved into a public welfare museum open free of charge to the general public.
