Xiaoxing'anling Dinosaur Museum

The Xiaoxing'anling Dinosaur Museum is located on the west side of Shuishang Park in the city center of Yichun. It was completed on July 17, 1998, underwent renovation in May 2006, and was finalized on September 28, 2006. With a total area of 4,500 square meters, the museum houses a modern technology dinosaur exhibition hall, a dinosaur fossil skeleton exhibition hall, a historical relics and forest culture exhibition hall. It is a comprehensive museum primarily focused on displaying dinosaur fossils, integrating biological landscapes and historical-cultural exhibits.

The museum displays a total of seven dinosaur fossil skeletons from the Cretaceous and Jurassic periods, varying in size. The largest skeleton is that of a Mamenchisaurus unearthed in Chuan County, Sichuan Province, measuring 22 meters in length and 9 meters in height. It has 19 cervical vertebrae alone and a tail over 4 meters long, making it a highly eye-catching exhibit. Also on display are two flat-headed hadrosaurid dinosaur skeleton fossils excavated from Longgushan in Jiayin County, Yichun City. These fossil skeletons, having endured millions of years of weathering, remain remarkably well-preserved and hold significant scientific value for biological research.

The new museum exhibition halls include: Earth Hall, Ocean Hall, Dinosaur World, Dinosaur Fossil Hall, Dinosaur Science Popularization Exhibition Hall, Paleontological Fossil Hall, Film and Video Hall, Multimedia Hall, Leisure and Entertainment Area, Tertiary and Quaternary Ancient Animals Hall, Historical Relics, and the Anti-Japanese Struggle History of Xiaoxing'anling.

Most of these dinosaur skeletons come from Longgushan in Jiayin County. Located on the right bank of the middle reaches of the Heilongjiang River, Longgushan earned its name due to the abundance of paleontological dinosaur fossils buried there, dating back 70 million years. This has drawn great attention from experts and scholars worldwide, making it a popular destination for visiting researchers, experts, and tourists from both China and abroad.
