Maolan Waterfall

The Maolan Gully Scenic Area combines majestic mountains, lush forests, clear waters, serene pools, and stunning landscapes. In terms of scale, number of attractions, landscape forms, and geological features, it holds an important position within the tourism resources of northern China. The gully streams in the Maolan Gully Tourist Area are over ten meters wide, with crystal-clear water. Towering cliffs tens of meters high line both banks, and there is even a several-meter-tall boulder standing in the middle of the stream. The water crashes against the huge rock, sending up splashes and creating a thunderous roar. The moss on the rock is fresh and vibrant green, while the underwater grass is clearly visible. It’s a tranquil paradise, like a fairyland on earth, that refreshes the mind and soul.

A few hundred meters away, two peaks rise up, and a slender stream of clear water seeps out between them. Like a silvery, delicate ribbon, it is uniquely beautiful and truly breathtaking. The most captivating sight in the Maolan Gully area is the Milky Way Waterfall, located several hundred meters away. With multiple cascades and a drop of dozens of meters, it features small waterfalls with delicate, scattered droplets, as well as large ones where curtains of water plunge straight down in torrents. The stream formed by the waterfall flows swiftly, disappearing into the dense mountain forests. A small log arch bridge spans the stream, adding a touch of poetic charm. Towering trees and wildflowers line both banks, and the air is refreshingly pure. The phrase “wild flowers give off a delicate fragrance, and fine trees grow in luxuriant shade” springs to mind. This is another serene spot, though one not meant for lingering.
