Rime Valley Scenic Area

The Hundred-Mile Rime Valley is located downstream of the Lianhua Hydropower Station Dam in Lianhua Town, Linkou County. Due to the intermittent power generation of the Lianhua Hydropower Station, the river surface downstream remains unfrozen for a hundred miles in winter, naturally creating the spectacular winter wonder of the Hundred-Mile Rime Valley. The variety and coverage area of the rime here are said to be the largest in the country. On the steep mountains, apricot trees, elm trees, Korean pines, and others are adorned with golden and silvery hues, glistening and translucent, resembling “a thousand snow-laden willows in bloom and ten thousand pear blossoms flourishing.” The ancient elm tree, weathered and venerable with a full head of hoary branches, is the oldest and largest elm in the Mudanjiang River Basin, regarded as a living fossil among trees. The beauty of the Lianhua Rime lies not only in its natural elegance, reminiscent of “a lotus emerging from flowing water,” but also in the artistry of the “crafted Rime Valley.”

Lianhua Town: Located in the northwest of Linkou County and adjacent to Hailin City, the national-level large-scale hydropower station—Lianhua Hydropower Station—is less than 2 kilometers from the town center. The Mudanjiang River flows through the town, providing abundant water resources and fertile soil, making it suitable for growing cash crops such as flue-cured tobacco and soybeans. The town has a total of 9 villages and residential areas, with a population of 12,030.
