Gaochengzi Reservoir (formerly Communist Youth League Reservoir), located on the middle reaches of Chaoyanggou, a second-level tributary of the Songhua River in Dehui City, Jilin Province, lies in the hilly area at the junction of Gaojiachengzi and Yushulinzi villages in Songhuahe Town, Dehui City. It is about 30 kilometers from Dehui City and just 500 meters from the 1174-km post of National Highway 102, and is a tributary of the Mushi River. With very convenient transportation, it attracts a continuous stream of visitors every year.

The dam of the reservoir is designed to be 687 meters long and is an earth-fill dam made of clayey soil. It is built to withstand a 100-year flood design and a 500-year flood check, while the downstream area is designed for a 50-year flood. The reservoir covers an area of 2.1 square kilometers, with a catchment area of 50 square kilometers and a total storage capacity of 10.24 million cubic meters. It is a medium-sized reservoir. Primarily used for flood control, water regulation, and irrigation, the reservoir protects 45,000 acres of low-lying, flood-prone farmland and ensures the safety of lives and property for 15 villages and around 4,500 residents.

The reservoir area spans 50 square kilometers, with aquaculture waters covering 2,000 acres. Towering poplars and fragrant wild grasses line the area below the dam. Passing through the willow shade, visitors are first greeted by thousands of lotus buds on the verge of blooming, which attract tourists from all over with their unique charm. The reservoir is also home to various premium fish species for sightseeing and fishing. A swimming area is available for people to enjoy a refreshing dip in the hot summer. The reservoir restaurant offers distinctive braised fish, live drunken shrimp, and uniquely flavored farmhouse snacks to delight visitors’ palates. Various pavilions, classic and elegant, provide a place for travelers to rest when tired. A winding plank bridge spans the lotus pond, allowing visitors to stroll and find the best photo spots. Speedboats offer an exciting ride on the water, while various pedal boats allow for a leisurely experience.

Every year, Gaochengzi Reservoir draws visitors from near and far with its iconic lotuses, unique local snacks, and diverse recreational activities. According to statistics, during peak tourist seasons, the reservoir receives over a thousand visitors daily, generating revenue of around ten thousand yuan.
