Baishan Lake is situated approximately 90 kilometers upstream of the Songhua River, within the reservoir area of the Baishan Hydropower Station, 6.2 kilometers along the Chaochang Highway, and 28.2 kilometers from Jingyu County Town. It is the first stop when climbing Changbai Mountain from the western slope. The scenic area spans a total of 180 square kilometers, with 120 square kilometers dedicated to water-based sightseeing and 60 square kilometers for land-based exploration. Known as the “Lijiang River of the North,” it is a national AAA-level tourist scenic spot and the main area of the Jingyu Volcanic Mineral Spring Group National Geological Park. Downstream lies the largest power station in Northeast China — the Baishan Hydropower Station, with a total installed capacity of 1.5 million kilowatts, individual unit capacity of 300,000 kilowatts, a dam height of over 140 meters, and concealed factory tunnels and workspaces that rank among the best in the country.

The majestic dam of the Baishan Hydropower Station spans the river and mountains, creating a vast lake surface with sparkling blue waves that twist and turn like a snake winding through the mountains. Towering cliffs line both shores, with formations such as the “Benevolent Stone Cliff”

showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. Other unique rock formations like “Great Leader Peak” and “Master and Disciple Journey” are strikingly vivid, lifelike, and realistic. The “Golden Turtle Stone” gazes proudly at the lakeside, offering an unobstructed view of the beautiful harmony between humans and nature. Natural wonders such as “One-Line Sky” and “Mountain God’s Face” are reflected in the lake like masterpieces, rivaling the beauty of the Lijiang River. In spring, birds sing and flowers bloom; in summer, swimming dragons (boats) glide through; in autumn, the mountains are covered in red leaves; and in winter, the landscape is adorned with jade-like trees and crystal flowers. The interplay of mountains, water, and rocks within the scenic area forms a dynamic natural landscape painting. Boating on the lake brings a sense of peace and joy, as if in a paradise, sparking endless imagination.

Across this hundreds-of-kilometers-long scenic area, the steep and rugged mountain peaks are the most magnificent and beautiful sights of Baishan Lake. Layer upon layer of mountains rise high, with peculiar peaks and strange rocks towering above, some reaching up to 200 meters. The shores are dotted with oddly shaped rocks — some resembling fairies under the moon, others like ferocious beasts roaring across the river. There are hundreds of such natural landscapes, lining both banks like a natural corridor.

Boarding a cruise boat, you’ll be greeted by a panoramic view of the peaks. The first sight to catch your eye is the “Benevolent Peak.” Drifting downstream along the “Benevolent Peak,” you’ll enjoy a rich array of rock formations, including “Ice Lake Valley,” “Fortune Spring,” “Camel Peak,” “Stone Gate Cliff,” “Master and Disciple Journey,” “Heavenly Ladder,” “Goddess Peak,” “Stone Forest Area,” “Ironclad General,” “Mountain God’s Face,” “Welcoming Peak,” “One-Line Sky,” “Crocodile Climbing Peak,” “Macaque Watching Water,” “Golden Turtle Exploring Water,” “Sky-Mending Stone,” “Bat Cave,” and “Black Bear Den.”

Visitors will be amazed by the wondrous craftsmanship of nature.

Nighttime bonfires bring joy and laughter, with starlight twinkling above. Each smiling face glows brilliantly under the firelight. By the flickering sparks, everyone enjoys hearty drinks and a joyful evening.

Benevolent Gorge Fitness Hike. Following the Haiqing Valley stream upstream, you’ll encounter beautiful scenery along the way. The gorge features a gently flowing creek, tree-shaded paths, lush forests, fresh air, and picturesque landscapes of clear mountains and fragrant flowers. Walking through the valley feels like strolling through a painting. Attractions include the “Yangguan Triple Waterfall,” “Pillar of Heaven,” “Pagoda Forest,” “Hanging Water Lake,” “Barrier,” “Benevolent Lion,” “Dragon King’s Scout,” “Tathagata Buddha,” “Camel Peak,” “Lovers’ Embrace,” and “Golden Rooster Announcing Dawn.” The beautiful natural scenery here is perfect for photography, while ancient myths and legends spark the imagination.
