Jingyu Volcano and Mineral Spring Group Geological Museum

The Jingyu Volcano and Mineral Spring Group Geological Museum was first built in 2004, opened to the public in 2005, expanded in 2008 with the addition of a rock-mineral-fossil exhibition area and a mineral water ecological environment monitoring room, gained an outdoor exhibition area in 2009, and saw the construction of a science popularization and cultural corridor in the outdoor area in 2014.

Natural Conditions:

The Jingyu Volcano and Mineral Spring Group Geological Museum is a natural science museum located in the eastern part of Jingyu County, Baishan City, Jilin Province. It is under the administration of the Jingyu Mineral Water Source Protection Area Management Bureau of the Changbai Mountain Natural Mineral Water and the Culture, Radio, Television and News Publishing Bureau of Jingyu County. The museum currently has seven staff members. Its collections include seven major categories — animal and plant specimens, rocks, ores, fossils, varves, rock core powder, and water resources — totaling 5,323 items, with annual visitors exceeding 100,000. Since its opening, the museum has made it its fundamental mission to enhance public service, adhering to the philosophy of inheriting culture, spreading civilization, and serving the public. It has continuously enriched its collection, improved infrastructure, and played an important role in cultivating scientific spirit and innovation awareness among the public, earning widespread support and recognition at the national, provincial, and municipal levels. It has successively been awarded honorary titles such as “National Science Popularization Education Base,” “Land and Resources Science Popularization Education Base,” “National Third-Class Museum,” “Jilin Province Volcano and Mineral Spring Science Popularization Base,” and “Jilin Province Youth Off-Campus Activity Demonstration Base.”

Museum Building Information:

The museum covers a land area of 6,500 square meters, with a building area of 2,095 square meters and an exhibition hall area of 1,050 square meters. The outdoor exhibition area spans 2,500 square meters. The overall structure adopts a three-story modern frame-style building that is simple and elegant, with an overall water-blue color symbolizing the crisp mineral water of Jingyu. The indoor exhibition hall features a surrounding layout composed of nine exhibition zones: the Volcano and Mineral Spring Dynamic Zone, Ecological Zone, Earth Evolution Zone, Mineral Water Formation Zone, Scenic Spot Zone, Mineral Water Knowledge Zone, Humanities Zone, Rock-Mineral-Fossil Zone, Mineral Water Ecological Environment Monitoring Room, and a three-dimensional sand table model. Through high-tech demonstrations and a rich variety of images, models, physical objects, and multimedia, it showcases the local volcanic geological structure, the formation mechanism of mineral water, and the ecological environment. The outdoor exhibition area displays large-scale mineral specimens unique to the Changbai Mountain region, along with paved walkways, fountains, rest pavilions, and various rare tree species from Changbai Mountain. Integrating the specimens into the landscape, it has been developed into a science popularization and leisure plaza that combines relaxation, entertainment, and educational functions.
