Hundred Birds Park

Hundred Birds Park is situated in the southeast corner of the intersection of Chongshan Road and Nujiang Street in Huanggu District, Shenyang. It was originally a private cherry orchard owned by a man named Zeng Xiting. In 1938, the site was taken over by the government to develop a water supply facility. The construction was carried out under the supervision of a Japanese engineer named Shiratori. As a result, when the park was officially built in 1939, it was named after “Shiratori” (translated as “Bai Niao” or White Bird). In 1951, it was renamed “Hundred Birds Park.”

When Hundred Birds Park was first established in 1939, it mainly involved planting trees to protect the water source. Its full development and construction only began after the liberation. In 1989, the park was leased to the Northeast branch of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) for 20 years. During this period, the company built 4,500 square meters of asphalt-loop paths, 500 linear meters of walkways, an animal breeding area covering 700 square meters, a wild boar pen spanning 800 square meters, a children’s amusement center of 900 square meters, seven fixed amusement sites totaling 1,400 square meters, two children’s playgrounds covering 200 square meters, two sculptures, five buildings of various architectural styles spanning 320 square meters, and two artificial hills, among other features.

Although the park has not been fully completed, it still attracts a continuous stream of visitors every day, especially during the morning and evening hours, making it the second-largest recreational area in the district.
