Former Site of the Special Military Tribunal for Trying Japanese War Criminals

The Former Site of the Special Military Tribunal for Trying Japanese War Criminals is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

At 8:30 a.m. on June 9, 1956, the Shenyang Special Military Tribunal officially commenced, putting eight major war criminals, including former Lieutenant General and division commander Suzuki Keiku of the Japanese Army, on trial.

This was the first time since the First Opium War in 1840 that the Chinese people, on their own soil and presided over by Chinese judges, tried foreign invaders without any outside interference — a globally significant event that captured worldwide attention.

To protect this historical witness that marks the Chinese people reclaiming their victory and dignity, the relevant departments in Shenyang have incorporated the Beiling Cinema under the administration of the “September 18th” History Museum. The Shenyang Municipal Government plans to transform it into an exhibition hall for the Former Site of the Special Military Tribunal for Trying Japanese War Criminals.

On October 7, 2019, the Former Site of the Special Military Tribunal for Trying Japanese War Criminals was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
