Chawan Tourist Resort is a natural village located in the western suburbs of Dalian, situated upstream of the Daxishan Reservoir and Wangjiadian Reservoir in Hongqi Town.

Here, surrounded by mountains and water, the scenery is picturesque. Free from noise and pollution, with convenient access, it is an ideal suburban leisure spot where you can enjoy spring outings and fresh, green food. It is a well-preserved natural area for tourism and relaxation.

This is a typical farming mountain village, surrounded by mountains on all sides, with farmers living in the valleys and ridges. The entire village is located in the middle section of Lushun Middle Road. It takes less than half an hour to drive here from the city center, making it very convenient. Along the way, there is a winding, narrow, and relatively secluded stretch that gives Chawan Village the unique advantage of being “a tranquil retreat amid the hustle and bustle”: suburban, mountainous, with water sources, good vegetation, and fresh air. Farming activities, fruits and vegetables, wild delicacies... everything offers a warm, back-to-nature experience.

Across its 28-square-kilometer area, 20 kilometers are covered in forests, with negative oxygen ion levels exceeding 80%. It is a “green gem” in Dalian’s suburbs, a natural “oxygen bar,” and an “oasis” longed for by urban dwellers.

In 2002, as part of its agricultural modernization efforts, Chawan Village launched a farmhouse leisure tourism project. With the goal of “bringing urbanites closer to nature and letting them experience agricultural production and rural life,” the village adopted the slogan “Cleanse your lungs in Chawan, nourish your stomach with farmhouse food,” which quickly attracted large numbers of city dwellers. Today, “farmhouse leisure” is no longer just a term for rural eateries but has become a new trend in green, healthy, and nature-oriented consumption, as well as a new form of suburban leisure tourism in Dalian. With years of effort, and strong support and encouragement from the Hongqi Town Party Committee and government, as well as direct management and planning by the village committee, the farmhouse leisure industry in Chawan has developed to high standards and thrived.

Currently, the village has over 30 operating farmhouses, receiving more than 200,000 visitors annually. “Farmhouse leisure” has gained widespread fame. Each operator strives to improve standards, scale, and uniqueness in terms of food, accommodation, and entertainment.

The village’s farmhouses have been uniformly planned, featuring diverse and distinctive styles—some by the road, some in gardens, some within forests, and some by lakes. Farmer homes vary: some are two-story buildings, others are single-story courtyards, and some are lakeside stilt houses. Facilities such as water, electricity, and cable TV are readily available. Interiors are fresh, elegant, clean, and hygienic, with both traditional round tables and modern audiovisual equipment.

Every farmhouse host is warm and hospitable. Thirsty? Step into a farmhouse for a drink of cool, clear water. Hungry? Sit at the table and enjoy fragrant farmhouse meals. Tired? Rest your feet on a heated kang... Authentic well-water tofu pudding, mouthwatering pork belly, lively lake fish, and various fresh vegetables from the fields will surely whet your appetite and bring you great joy. Currently, Chawan Village’s farmhouse leisure mainly falls into four types:

The first is the “farmland farming” type, such as Yulong Mountain Villa. It includes the 1,300-acre Yulong Farm, over 20 greenhouses growing premium fruits, vegetables, and crops, large self-picking orchards, the beautiful Yulong Reservoir, and a school farming base halfway up the mountain. On weekends, families or friends visiting with tour groups can personally experience farming and plowing, fishing by the water, walking in the forest, picking fruit from orchards, and most importantly, letting children experience rural life.

The second is the “flower and fruit viewing” type, such as Nanchagou Farmhouse Leisure, a valley in Chawan Village that includes nearly 20 farmhouses like Tongquan Mountain Villa, Juxiang Garden, Xilin Restaurant, and Tongguang Restaurant.

It features farmhouse orchard recreation, with over 1,000 acres of self-picking orchards cultivating more than ten major series of premium fruit trees and hundreds of varieties, including peach, apricot, pear, apple, and cherry orchards, as well as a 2-kilometer grape arbor... In spring, admire peach and pear blossoms; in summer, taste a variety of fresh fruits, satisfying both your eyes and taste buds. Additionally, starting in March each year, the mountains are covered with wild vegetables like bracken, fiddlehead ferns, daylilies, and wild mushrooms, sprouting like bamboo shoots. Various medicinal herbs are also abundant. Stay in a log cabin, eat wild vegetables, admire flowers and leaves, enjoy a forest bath, and leave with a full load of souvenirs—guaranteed fun.

Another type is the “scenic lodge” model, typified by “Happy Farmhouse.” These are affordable farmhouse guesthouses, traditional courtyards arranged simply and plainly, exuding a homely feel. Place a table and chairs under a tree in the yard, enjoy delicious farmhouse dishes like pork rib stew with vermicelli, homemade blood sausage, pig-slaughtering hotpot, chicken stewed with mushrooms, tofu with scallions, and cornmeal porridge—the aroma fills the entire yard.

The fourth type is the “garden inn” model, represented by “Yinshui Bay,” “Congjia Courtyard,” and “Azalea,” which are larger, higher-end mountain hotels. Standalone small buildings built against the mountains come with comprehensive facilities, integrating dining, lodging, conferences, and entertainment. They can accommodate groups of over a hundred for meals and lodging, and prices are affordable—just seventy to eighty yuan per person for three meals and accommodation. Yinshui Bay’s architectural style resembles that of Longwangtang Reservoir in Lushun. Visitors can play chess, admire flowers, fish, listen to musical fountains, and go hiking under lantern-lit tea pavilions—endless fun. Wild chickens, ducks, geese, dogs, rabbits, and African geese roam the hillsides, offering delicious meat available for on-the-spot purchase.
