Dalian Yongshun An

Yongshun An is a Taoist temple located on the mountainside of Xichagou in Chaan Village, known as "Yongshun An" and also referred to as the "North Temple."

Yongshun An was first built in the first year of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty, which is 1862. In the 1930s, the Chagou Association raised funds through donations to rebuild it into a large temple with three main halls. The temple enshrines five clay statues including the “Goddess Nüwa” and “Guanyin Bodhisattva.”

“Nüwa” is a figure from mythology, said to have repaired the sky with five-colored stones, controlled floods, slain ferocious beasts, and enabled people to live in peace.

Legend has it that people originally had no intention of building a temple here. When those carrying the statues stopped to rest midway due to exhaustion and tried to continue, they found the statues could no longer be lifted. Thus, it was believed that the deities greatly favored this beautiful mountainous and watery land, so a temple was built here to enshrine them.

To pray for favorable weather, peace, and prosperity, devout worshippers visit on the first and fifteenth days of each lunar month, making the temple a place of thriving incense offerings.
