Daqinggou Scenic Area
Daqinggou Reservoir Tourist Area
Located in the northwest of Zhangwu County, about fifty kilometers from the county seat, it borders Kulun Banner of Jirem League in Inner Mongolia to the west, adjoins the Daqinggou Nature Reserve in Inner Mongolia to the north, connects to the Qinggou Nature Reserve at the provincial level in Zhangwu County to the east, and links to Chenggou Village, Daleng Township, Zhangwu County to the south. The total area is 9,448 mu, including 2,600 mu of water surface, with elevations ranging between 130 and 235 meters. This valley stretches for dozens of miles, with depths between fifty and one hundred fifty meters, slopes of twenty to twenty-six degrees, bottom widths of fifty to one hundred fifty meters, and top widths of two hundred to eight hundred meters. The source of the valley lies in Horqin Left Wing Rear Banner, Jirem League, Inner Mongolia. Daqinggou boasts pleasant scenery where rare, unique, ancient, and peculiar plants thrive, offering breathtaking views that have long attracted tourists, experts, and scholars from both China and abroad. Lush greenery persists year-round in Daqinggou, with flowers blooming continuously. The valley is home to over a hundred plant varieties, totaling around seven hundred species, including more than a hundred woody plants. Based on their natural distribution, three main plant communities have formed, represented by Manchurian ash, Mongolian oak, and large-fruited elm. There are over two hundred medicinal plant species, as well as thirty to forty types of ornamental plants. Flowers bloom in all seasons, displaying a vibrant spectrum of colors—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple—creating a lively scene of flourishing blossoms. Examples include peonies and lilies that bloom in spring and summer, fragrant threadleaf coreopsis, bird cherries, wild roses, azaleas, and large-flowered cypripediums. The lush fruit-bearing actinidia kolomikta, with its red berries and yellow calyxes, is known locally as the “plum blossom of the north.” Fibrous plants are also widely distributed. There is no shortage of wild fruit tree resources, nor of wild vegetable plants. Additionally, the area features fungal delicacies such as monkey head mushrooms, cloud ear fungus, black fungus, and various other mushroom varieties.
Daqinggou has gained attention for its unique natural environment and regional characteristics, giving rise to the legend of the “Eight Oddities”: log cabins, earthen plank walls, sand-brick walls that never collapse, evergreen ancient forests in winter; no flooding even in heavy rains, no drying up even in severe droughts, crows that don’t build nests, and frogs that don’t croak—adding an air of mystery to Daqinggou. Visitors can enjoy fish feasts amid the sandy dunes and emerald waters, explore the forest, go fishing, or swim… immersing themselves in the generous gifts of nature. The Daqinggou Scenic Area has become a key attraction not only in Liaoning but across Northeast China, and was named one of Liaoning’s Top 50 Scenic Spots in 1998.
