Julong Lake is located in Houxinshiu Town, northeast of Zhangwu County, Fuxin City, about 35 kilometers from the county seat and accessible via the Zhangkang Highway to Zhangwu in Fuxin City. In 1959, it was transformed from the Hunhe River into a reservoir, and completed in 1970. During the construction of the reservoir, two water diversion channels were dug, resembling dragon whiskers, hence the name "Julong Lake" (Giant Dragon Lake). The Julong Lake reservoir has a catchment area of 27.5 square kilometers, a main dam that is 1,825 meters long, 55 meters high, and 4.5 meters wide at the top, with a total storage capacity of 14.4 million cubic meters.

In recent years, Julong Lake has added facilities such as pleasure boats and fishing spots, making it a tourist attraction. Visitors can take a boat tour across the vast lake surface. Out on the lake, where water meets sky and mist stretches far, it feels like being in the water towns of southern China. There is a small island in the lake, covering an area of about 10 acres, on which the "Julong Pavilion" has been built, along with a lakeside restaurant serving a distinctive “fish feast” that delights visitors’ palates.

Standing alone by Julong Lake, one sees water and sky merge into one, with misty waves stretching far and wide. The fishing island in the heart of the lake sways gently on the sparkling waters, delicate and ethereal. By taking a pleasure boat and braving the waves to reach the fishing island, you’ll find butterflies fluttering, birds chirping, flowers blooming, and lush grass. From here, you can gaze at farming activities in the distance and listen to fishermen’s songs nearby, enjoying a scene that blends the charm of both northern frontier and southern water town. Spending the night on the fishing island, you can admire the moon reflected in the water, listen to the glimmer of fishing lights, or enjoy solitary fishing amid the sounds of insects and frogs, with willows swaying and a gentle breeze rustling — a truly idyllic experience. The island is equipped with the Julong Pavilion, covered walkways, a lakeside restaurant, and more. Fish such as carp, silver carp, crucian carp, catfish, and whitefish are caught fresh and cooked on the spot, offering delicious, tender meat and the fragrant taste of rice.

Julong Lake is famed for the scenic view of "Fishing Island under Moonlight," which over the years has attracted countless poets and artists to compose verses and create paintings, as well as numerous visitors who come to immerse themselves in the landscape and sing joyfully.
