Xiuyan Qingliang Mountain Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
Qingliang Mountain Scenic Area
Qingliang Mountain Scenic Area is located in Tanggou Town in the northeastern part of Xiuyan. It earned its name due to its deep forests and cool, moist climate. The area is world-renowned for its peculiar rocks, clear waters, elegant peaks, unique pines, and perilous cliffs, and has long been a site for spiritual retreats in both Buddhism and Taoism. Covering an area of approximately 30 square kilometers, its highest peak, Maokui Mountain, stands at an elevation of 1141.5 meters. Major tourist attractions include the Burial Horse Stone, Hidden Horse Valley, Arrow Eye, and General’s Platform—legends say these were left by the Tang Dynasty general Xue Rengui during his eastern campaign. There are also natural wonders such as the Stone Lake Eighteen Arhats Cave, the Inner Cave of Laojun Hall, Dragon Elephant Rock, stone flowers, stone shoots, stone forests, twin wind-blown rocks, and the beautiful Little Angel rock formation. Other sights include an ancient pagoda from the Liao Dynasty, thousand-year-old pines, and an ice cave that remains frozen year-round. The area hosts over 600 plant species, including more than 150 types of garden trees from 38 families and 78 genera, over 400 varieties of medicinal herbs, and more than 50 types of wild mountain vegetables. Wildlife is abundant and diverse, featuring owls, vultures, thrushes, foxes, and wild boars. Rare animals such as the Chinese giant salamander and crayfish-like forest insects can also be found in the mountain springs.
Within Qingliang Mountain Scenic Area lies a unique natural water cave, which contains an underground river that visitors can explore by boat. The cave walls feature a stunning array of rock formations and stalactites.
The Stone Lake Waterfall in Qingliang Mountain Scenic Area is located in Shigu Valley, Huangtudi Village, Chaoyang Township. It originates from the foot of Wen Mountain at Daiwang Temple on Qingliang Mountain, formed by the convergence of streams from both the east and west valleys. Due to the constant flow of water, the lake naturally features “seven waterfalls and seven pools.” Additionally, in the warm spring village of Chaoyang, located at the foot of Qingliang Mountain, there are abundant thermal springs with temperatures reaching up to 70°C. These waters are rich in 17 types of organic elements and are known for their unique therapeutic effects on rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis, and skin diseases.
