Beigou Site

Beigou Site

The Beigou Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Liaoning Province.

The Beigou Site is a sun-facing slope that is warm in winter and cool in summer, with thick clay layers. Moreover, the settlement is surrounded by the Dayang River, making it an ideal location for fishing and hunting near mountains and water — perfect for survival and habitation. According to C-14 laboratory testing by the Department of Archaeology at Peking University, this site dates back approximately 4,500 years. Artifacts and house foundations also suggest that four or five thousand years ago, this was a large clan settlement and a relatively prosperous one. People hunted and fished, leading a well-off life. However, strangely enough, no tombs or human bones have been discovered here to date.

Protected area: With the western corner of the cultivated land on the western slope of Beigouli (123°15′35.8″E, 40°17′34.2″N) as the base point, the protected zone extends 400 meters eastward, and 900 meters southward and westward, and 120 meters northward.

Construction control zone: A Class I construction control zone extends 100 meters beyond the protected area, and a Class II construction control zone extends 200 meters beyond the Class I zone.
