Shanhai Square

The Shanhai Square scenic area is located in the western coastal tourism belt of Yingkou Development Zone, covering a total area of 400,000 square meters. It consists of Shanhai Square, Crescent Bay Beach, the Seaside Promenade (boardwalk), Bohai Pearl Viewing Platform (shell-shaped), and the Maid of Pohai Sculpture, among other features. Construction of the scenic area began in early 2008, with a total investment of 350 million yuan. The Shanhai Square scenic area is a comprehensive tourism destination integrating sightseeing, leisure, vacation, entertainment, and sports.

Shanhai Square covers an area of approximately 100,000 square meters, with the main plaza structure occupying 60,000 square meters. It serves as a key urban landmark in the southern new district of the development zone. The square is divided into two levels: the first level houses commercial outlets for Crescent Bay Beach, while the second level is an ocean-viewing platform featuring green belts, landscape lighting, and a musical fountain. Major attractions include the Integrity Flute Sculpture at the entrance plaza, eight white marble relief walls depicting the history and folklore of the Yingkou region, a bronze Sea Pearl Stone, twelve bronze zodiac animal sculptures representing the ocean, and a sunken performance plaza.

Crescent Bay Beach is situated along 1,500-meter stretches of coastline on both the north and south sides of Shanhai Square. Along the shoreline, there is a 2,500-meter wooden boardwalk and Shidao Red landscape wall, a 3,000-meter-long electric vehicle lane, a 15-meter-wide green belt, and five comprehensive tourism service stations.

The Bohai Pearl (Shell) Viewing Platform is accessible by walking 668 meters westward from Shanhai Square along the Seaside Promenade (boardwalk). The viewing platform stands 40 meters tall, with a steel structure as its main framework and a maximum cantilever length of 65 meters. Its main functions include: a small performance venue on the top level, featuring a 1,000-square-meter stage and seating for 700 spectators, as well as fishing and bungee jumping facilities located along the cantilevered edge of the platform.

The Maid of Pohai Sculpture is located 1,500 meters offshore to the west of Shanhai Square, inspired by the legend of Pohai Bay. The sculpture stands 60 meters tall and is made entirely of stainless steel. The lower section below 11 meters consists of concrete and caisson structural foundations, while the internal support system is steel-based. It serves as the iconic landmark of the entire scenic area.

As the urban welcome hall of the development zone’s modern, ecological port tourism city, and a key highlight of the western coastal tourism belt, the Shanhai Square tourism area encapsulates the essence of Yingkou Development Zone’s tourism development and urban cultural heritage.
