The Liaoning Bear Valley Botanical Garden is one of China’s earliest-established botanical gardens, featuring the most comprehensive collection of northern tree species and exerting a certain influence both domestically and internationally. It is often referred to as the "Miniature Specimen Garden of Asia." The Bear Valley Arboretum has become one of the most complete repositories of woody plant germplasm resources from the northern Yan region in northern China.

The Bear Valley Botanical Garden preserves over 500 species of rare trees from 152 genera and 62 families across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. These include ancient and rare relict species renowned both in China and abroad, such as the ginkgo and metasequoia—known as living fossils—as well as rare species like the magnolia sieboldii, styrax obassia, kalopanax septemlobus, lindera megaphylla, and acanthopanax senticosus. It also features economically valuable specialty trees such as eucommia ulmoides and Toxicodendron vernicifluum, along with introduced species like the eastern white pine, eastern redcedar, ponderosa pine, shortleaf pine, pitch pine, European spruce, rhus typhina, liriodendron tulipifera, magnolia obovata, acer saccharinum, quercus rubra, quercus variabilis, quercus palustris, and betula pendula, all contributing to the garden’s distinctive character.
