Yu Yuanzi Site

The Yu Yuanzi Site is a cultural heritage site protected by Yingkou City.

The Yu Yuanzi Site is located on the eastern ridge of Yu Yuanzi Village, Xiongyue Town, Bayuquan District. One li to the south lies the Xiongyue River, seven li to the west is Liaodong Bay, nine li to the east is Xiongyue Town, and the northern part consists of vast farmland.

Beneath the loess ridge lies a Warring States-period site, which was originally several meters higher than the surrounding farmland but has now been largely leveled. The site covers an area of 50,000 square meters. In 1958, Warring States-period coins were discovered here during plowing. In the autumn of 1970, a villager named Wang Tingming unearthed 40 jin of Warring States-period knife coins at a depth of 0.4 meters from the surface in the northwest corner of the site. The coins were found arranged neatly in a square formation. A small number of reddish-brown, coarse sandy pottery shards with rope patterns from the Warring States period were also found on the surface, along with traces of ashes. In 1983, while digging soil to make adobe bricks within the residential area, villagers discovered a shell mound tomb. It yielded a white pottery jar with an outward-flaring lip, straight neck, bulging body, and arched base. The lower half of the jar featured pounded rope patterns, characteristic of Warring States-period artifacts. On the western and northern edges of the site, patterned brick-chambered tombs have been found, with all observed pottery fragments being gray in color. In 1973, villagers accidentally discovered a bronze iron while excavating soil in the southern part of the site.

In 1984, the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Document No. Ying Zheng Fa [1984] 108) designated the Yu Yuanzi Site as a municipal-level cultural heritage protection unit. The cultural heritage protection scope and construction control zone announced by the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Document No. Ying Zheng Fa [1990] 38) are as follows: the protection area extends from the boundary between Yu Yuanzi Village and Guojia Village in the east, to the courtyard wall of Han Shanwen’s house in the west, from the rural road in front of Ding Weilong’s house in the north, to the western soil yard of Guotun Village in the south.
