Lietie Mountain City Site

The Lietie Mountain City Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Liaoning Province.

The Lietie Mountain City Site is located at the summit of Lietie Mountain, which stands 317 meters above sea level in Hongqi Fort Village, Hongqi Town, Bayuquan District. Hejiagou Village and Longhua Village are bordered by this mountain.

At the mountaintop, there are artificially built stone walls that run along the perimeter, forming an irregular rectangle. The city site at the summit covers an area of approximately 2,400 square meters. Some sections of the mountain city walls directly utilize the natural terrain, while others are man-made. The existing walls are about 1.2 meters wide and 0.3 to 0.8 meters high, with around 70 meters of the wall still preserved. The city gate is situated at the southeast corner, measuring approximately 1.1 meters in width, with clear signs of human construction. For security purposes, an additional wall was built on the southern side of the city. The eastern and northern sides of the city are relatively steep, while the western and southern sides are more gentle.

A wealth of artifacts has been found within the city. Collected samples include fragments of brown, reddish-brown, and grayish-brown sandy pottery such as rims, bases, feet, handles, and body sections, all used by people at the time and bearing distinct characteristics of the Bronze Age. The Lietie Mountain City Site not only holds significant historical value but also archaeological importance, providing valuable physical material for further research into the Bronze Age culture of the Yingkou region.

In 2012, the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Ying Zheng [2012] No. 173) designated the Lietie Mountain City Site as a municipal-level cultural heritage protection unit. In 2014, the Liaoning Provincial People's Government (Liao Zheng Fa [2014] No. 27) announced it as a provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit. The cultural heritage protection scope and construction control zone designated by the Yingkou Municipal People's Government (Ying Zheng [2013] No. 185) are as follows: the protection area includes the interior of the Lietie Mountain City Site walls and the area within 50 meters outside the outer base of the walls; the Class I construction control zone extends 100 meters beyond the protection area.
