This route is structured around the China-Laos Railway, linking the three most iconic cities: Vientiane (Days 1–2), Vang Vieng (Days 3–4), and Luang Prabang (Days 5–7). The train ride from Vientiane to Vang Vieng takes about 1 hour, and from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang around 1 hour and 10 minutes. No long-distance buses are required, ensuring a laid-back pace.

Day 1: Arrival in Vientiane

After arriving at Wattay International Airport, check into a hotel along the Mekong River. In the evening, take a stroll along the riverbank, visit the Night Market by the Mekong, and try Lao beer and grilled fish over charcoal while soaking in the capital’s relaxed nightlife.

Day 2: Vientiane – Stupas and the Arc de Triomphe

  • Morning: Visit Pha That Luang, Laos’ most important national symbol and stupa.
  • Noon: Head to Patuxai (Victory Gate) and climb to the top for panoramic views of Vientiane.

Day 3: Vientiane to Vang Vieng – Nam Song River and Lagoons

Day 4: Vang Vieng – Karst Landscapes and Hot Air Balloons

Start your day with a hot air balloon ride over the karst peaks and countryside, or rent a motorbike to explore Tham Jong Cave and Tham Phu Kham Cave. Return to town in the afternoon, then take the train to Luang Prabang in the evening.

Day 5: Luang Prabang – Exploring the Ancient Town
