The Inner Mongolia University Ethnic Museum houses an extremely precious national first-class cultural relic — the "Yuan Dynasty 'Phags-pa Script Mongolian Gold Plaque," the first of its kind ever discovered both domestically and internationally. On the second floor of the museum, there is a photo album displaying images of the "Yuan Dynasty 'Phags-pa Script Mongolian Gold Plaque." This museum is a public service facility with a non-profit nature and is open to the public free of charge year-round.

The museum showcases the nomadic civilization of northern Chinese ethnic groups and the Mongolian people through a combination of physical exhibits and visual materials.

The museum has three floors of exhibition halls, with the second-floor Morning Hall "Ode to the Horseback" serving as the main exhibition area. It features artifacts such as bronze knives, bronze belt ornaments, and bronze arrowheads from the Xiongnu period, a dragon-patterned bronze wine cup, exquisitely embroidered yellow satin sachets, Yuan Dynasty gold belt ornaments, Yuan Dynasty paper currency, and the "Yuan Dynasty 'Phags-pa Script Mongolian Gold Plaque" — the first of its kind ever discovered both domestically and internationally. These displays present various folk items created and used by the Mongolian people during their long nomadic life. Each weathered relic tells the historical story of the horseback people’s daily life and production, sharing the legendary tales of the vast grasslands with visitors. The first-floor "Felt Homeland Sentiment" exhibition hall displays traditional Mongolian yurts, wooden carts, and horse lassos, among other tools of daily life and production, illustrating the living conditions of ordinary nomadic families. The third floor consists of two parts: the "History Exhibition Hall" and the "Flexible Exhibition Hall." The "History Exhibition Hall" mainly displays unearthed cultural relics related to the history of northern ethnic groups. The "Flexible Exhibition Hall" is reserved for hosting various temporary exhibitions.

The museum was established in August 2004, with a construction area of 4,400 square meters and an exhibition area of 1,200 square meters. It developed from the "Mongolian Folk Culture Exhibition Room" at Inner Mongolia University. The exhibits are based on a large collection of valuable folk cultural relics gathered and preserved over a lifetime by Mr. Baiyinnara, a part-time researcher at Inner Mongolia University. By the end of 2004, it had been developed into an exhibition room housing and displaying over 3,000 folk relics.
