Zhuzai City Site

The Zhuzai City Site is located on the southern bank of the Wu River, 1 kilometer southwest of Lechang City. It dates back to the Qin and Han dynasties. Discovered in 1983 and partially excavated in 1988, the site revealed a section of the southwestern city wall corner foundation built with river pebbles. The remaining width is 2 meters, and the remaining height is 0.6 meters. The structure is L-shaped: the northern section is 3 meters long, and the eastern section is 12.8 meters long. A large number of rope-patterned roof tiles and tubular tiles were unearthed, while pottery fragments mainly feature square-grid stamped patterns. The main types of vessels include jars and pots. Pillar foundation stones were also found within the site area. Based on the current remains, the main part of the city site has been submerged by the present-day Wu River. Only a portion of the southern city wall remains. This site is believed to be the Qin-era Renxiao City mentioned in the Commentary on the Water Classic, which later became the Zhao Tuo City during the Nanyue Kingdom period.
