Tiger Head Mountain Site

The Tiger Head Mountain Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Lechang City.

The Tiger Head Mountain Site is located about 2 kilometers northwest of downtown Lechang City. It dates back to the Bronze Age. The site covers an area of approximately 12,000 square meters. Its cultural remains can be divided into two phases. The first phase includes pottery items such as cauldrons, tripods, jars, beans (dou vessels), and spinning whorls, with decorative patterns like cord marks, zigzag lines, swirls, checkered designs, and appliqué. Stone tools consist of mattocks, adzes, chisels, shovels, arrowheads, halberds, and grinding stones. Its cultural characteristics are largely the same as those of Phase III at the Shixia Site. It belongs to the early Bronze Age, corresponding to the Xia and Shang dynasties. The second phase features pottery items such as urns, jars, and vessel stands, with decorative patterns including woven designs, kui motifs, thunder patterns, nipple studs, comb-stamped dots, and punctured patterns. Stone tools include axes, triangular arrowheads, grinding stones, and stone molds for bronze casting, among which are bell molds and hook molds. Its cultural traits are similar to those of Phase IV at the Shixia Site, roughly corresponding to the Western Zhou and Spring and Autumn periods.

In 1987, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit by the People's Government of Lechang County.
