Wushan Terraces, also known as Shanglijia Terraces, are located in Wushan Town, Lechang City. Stretching from north to south along the mountain ridges, the terraces are layered with lush greenery, presenting different scenery throughout the four seasons. During the spring plowing and planting season, the cascading, curved “mirrors” framed by borders shimmer with golden highlights under the morning and evening sunlight, dancing gently in the breeze. Standing among them, one feels as if immersed in a dreamy, crystalline wonderland. In midsummer, the emerald-green terraced fields form delicate, naturally shaped miniature landscapes. In autumn, golden rice paddies paint a breathtaking rural scene, creating a truly spectacular view.

The Wushan Terraces were first built during the Ming Dynasty and completed in the Qing Dynasty. Having stood for hundreds of years, they have been cultivated and inhabited year after year by the hardworking Hakka people, who continue to practice unique farming culture and earth art. Traditional performances such as paper horse shows, tea-picking opera, flower-drum drama, and folk songs are part of the local heritage. Handmade paper-making still thrives in rural workshops, while bamboo farming tools and household items are also distinctive features. The terraces are spread across altitudes of 300 to 1,000 meters, layer upon layer from the mountain foot to the summit, patch after patch, varying greatly in size and shape—some round like basins, some shaped like gourds, some resembling shoe soles, others taking on human-like expressions... If Guilin’s Longji Terraces are likened to a graceful lady of noble birth, then Wushan Terraces are like a delicate, secluded maiden.

Wushan Town: Located in the northeastern part of Lechang City, Wushan Town is about 33 kilometers from the city center by road. Covering an area of 186 square kilometers, it borders Hongshan Town of Renhua County to the east, neighbors Langtian Town to the south, connects with Beixiang Town and Jiufeng Town to the northwest and north, and adjoins Rucheng County of Hunan Province to the north. The town comprises 11 administrative villages, 130 natural villages, over 3,700 households, and a population of 19,080. It is primarily a forestry-focused town.
