Iqi Junwang Mansion

The Junwang Mansion, also known as the Iqi Junwang Mansion, is located on the west side of Wangfu Lane along Wangfu Road in Altan Xire Town, Ejin Horo Banner. It is an ancient building situated in Altan Xire Town, the seat of the Ejin Horo Banner government, and is the only well-preserved princely mansion among the seven banners and one district of Ordos. It is one of the top ten tourist attractions in Ordos and also the most intact princely mansion in the western part of Inner Mongolia.

The Junwang Mansion is divided into a front courtyard and a rear courtyard, covering a total area of 2,105.79 square meters with a total floor space of 1,040.44 square meters. The outer perimeter of the mansion compound is surrounded by an earthen wall, over ten feet high and five feet wide (built between 1928 and 1930), covering a total area of more than 15,000 square meters. The front courtyard was built in 1931, covering an area of 939.52 square meters with a floor space of 465.78 square meters, consisting of 13 living quarters. Opposite the entrance of the front courtyard stands a memorial archway with couplets inscribed on both sides: the left reads “Chief of the League, inheriting blessings and prosperity, the banner’s enlightened leader, with a hereditary princely foundation,” while the right reads “A screen for the Tan family, blessed by the Star of Fortune, governing the entire banner with benevolent rule.” Unfortunately, it was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. The rear courtyard was built in 1936, with 16 living quarters, covering an area of 1,166.27 square meters and a floor space of 574.66 square meters. The front and rear courtyards of the mansion are connected by a blue brick wall over two yards high (with battlements built into the wall for defense).
