Bath is located in Somerset, 150 kilometers west of London, nestled within the winding valley of the River Avon on the site of a natural amphitheater in the Cotswold Hills. The city originally began as a Roman spa town and later became an important center for the woolen textile industry during the Middle Ages. In the 18th century, during the reign of King George III, inspired by Palladian architecture, Bath was transformed into a beautiful city where neoclassical and traditional buildings were harmoniously integrated.

Among the ancient architectural sites, the Roman Baths, the Pump Room, and the Cathedral are especially renowned. The Roman Baths are situated in the city center, built around the thermal springs. These springs, originating from 3,000 meters underground, gush out 1.27 million liters of water daily at a constant temperature of 46.5°C. The waters are both drinkable and therapeutic. Adjacent to the Roman Baths is the Pump Room, a gathering place for the ladies and gentlemen who visited Bath. Its 6-meter-high ceiling features delicate carvings, and the grand sash windows are hallmarks of Georgian architecture. The Cathedral stands in the square east of the Roman Baths, built in the 15th century in the Gothic style. Its western façade is famous for its many large windows and fan-vaulted ceilings, earning it the nickname “Lantern of the West” due to its abundance of windows.

Today, Bath remains famous as a spa destination. According to national regulations, 4,900 buildings here have been designated as protected structures, and six areas have been classified as archaeological sites, making Bath one of the most distinctive historic cities in Britain today.
