Holburne Museum

The Holburne Museum, also known as the Holburne Art Museum, is located in the Bath area of Somerset, England, within the Happy Garden of the historic Sydney Pleasure House, which has been designated as a Grade I listed building in the UK. The museum building was constructed between 1795 and 1796 by Master Charles Harcourt, initially serving as a public social venue. In the 19th century, the building underwent several changes in use, and its structure was modified between 1913 and 1916 by architect Reginald Blomfield, who added a modern-style extension. It was during this time that the site became home to the Holburne Museum.

The collections at the Holburne Museum primarily consist of carefully selected 18th-century British portraits, including five works by Thomas Gainsborough, as well as pieces by Johann Zoffany, George Romney, and Allan Ramsay. Additionally, the museum houses portraits by modern artists such as David Fisher. Other collections include porcelain, antiques, furniture, and more from the collection of the Earl of Holburne. The museum is open to the public year-round, and its permanent exhibitions are free to visit.
