The Iron Horse and Golden Tent Sculpture Group is the second attraction in the Genghis Khan Mausoleum Tourist Area. It consists of five stone-carved groups forming a military formation array, featuring one large and four smaller military tents, along with over 300 sculptures. It spans a total width of 99 meters and extends 148 meters deep, covering a vast area with ample space. The Iron Horse and Golden Tent is the world's only large-scale real-scene sculpture group that fully showcases Genghis Khan’s military campaign palace. It recreates the historical panorama of Genghis Khan’s life of warfare — conquering lands across the north and south, spanning Europe and Asia with a mighty and awe-inspiring force, establishing his great legacy. It offers visitors a vivid sense of Genghis Khan commanding millions of troops, bravely marching forth to unify Mongolia.

Here, the grand scene of Genghis Khan’s departure for battle has been recreated, allowing you to experience the magnificent momentum of the expedition. Once you enter the scenic area, you become part of the sculpture group, blending seamlessly with the entire ensemble to form a beautiful composition of movement and stillness — harmonious and natural, giving you an immersive feeling as if you were truly there.

On the micro-terrain mounds on both sides of the sculpture plaza, two 18-meter-wide pathways have been naturally aligned to run nearly parallel to Genghis Khan Avenue. Thanks to the unobstructed paths, you can view the full panorama of the sculpture group from the side at a downward angle, appreciating a historical scene of a vast army on the march. Here, you’ll marvel at Genghis Khan’s success, finding it incredible that under such conditions and with such a force, he created so many world records and left behind so many global mysteries in human history...

As you ascend the stairs of “Majestic Mountains and Rivers,” what suddenly comes into view is an immensely grand sight — the Iron Horse and Golden Tent Sculpture Group. Covering an area of 22,770 square meters, it features a total of 385 statues and 5 golden tents, forming the core circle during Genghis Khan’s expeditions. This core circle is composed of five military formation arrays: at the center is the Great Ordos of Genghis Khan (in Mongolian, "Ordos" means palace tent), behind which are several auxiliary Ordos. Surrounding the Ordos are the imperial service teams, encircled by elite guards, followed by logistics support teams. Each sculpture stands 4 meters tall and is cast in iron. The Great Ordos of Genghis Khan has a diameter of 13 meters and is pulled by a 22-oxen cart.

All the golden tents within the Iron Horse and Golden Tent Sculpture Group are arranged exactly as they would have been in that era. In the 13th century, a European painter who personally witnessed the grandeur of Genghis Khan’s military expedition created an oil painting titled “Iron Horse and Golden Tent.” The Iron Horse and Golden Tent Sculpture Group we see today is based on this historical painting.
