Introduction The Arndale Centre was damaged during the 0 incident in 1996. Also affected were the Corn Exchange, Royal Exchange, Longridge House, and the original Marks & Spencer building. After reconstruction, the world’s largest Marks & Spencer building replaced the original, the Royal Exchange and Corn Exchange have been fully restored, and two historically significant pubs have been relocated to the new Shambles Square next to the cathedral. The cathedral and St Anne's Square have been turned into pedestrian zones.
