Castlefield
Introduction The Roman fort built in 79 AD can be considered the predecessor of Manchester. This fort was located in Castlefield, which later became the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. Castlefield still retains dilapidated elevated railways, rusting iron bridges, and massive warehouses that are truly awe-inspiring to this day.
By the 1980s, the area was transformed into the urban heritage park it is today. The Museum of Science and Industry is a major highlight of Castlefield, featuring well-preserved steam engines and spinning machines, as well as a restored railway station from the 1830s. The reconstructed Roman fort is also worth a visit.
