City of Manchester Stadium

Etihad Stadium, formerly known as the City of Manchester Stadium, was sponsored by Etihad Airways and renamed the "Etihad Stadium." It was originally designed for the 2000 Summer Olympics, but Manchester’s bid failed. It was later repurposed for football and became the new home ground of Manchester City.

The stadium has a bowl-shaped design with two tiers of seating throughout and an additional tier on both sides, totaling 47,726 seats. It is the fourth-largest football stadium in England and the tenth-largest sports venue in the UK. Construction began in 1999, and the stadium was completed and opened in 2002 at a cost of £110 million. It features the widest pitch in English football stadiums, using natural grass rather than the artificial turf found in many other venues — a feature highly favored by teams. The City of Manchester Stadium enjoys widespread support and recognition from fans, and was voted the second most popular stadium in the UK in a 2005 poll.

In addition to various sporting events, the Etihad Stadium also hosts concerts, making it one of the largest performance venues in the UK, with a capacity of up to 60,000 spectators. The Red Hot Chili Peppers held their first concert here in 2004, and other artists such as U2 and Oasis have also performed at the venue.
