The Whitworth Art Gallery is situated in Whitworth Park in southern Manchester, England. It was founded in 1889 by Robert Darbishire, and its collections were donated by Joseph Whitworth. The gallery is also named after Joseph Whitworth.

The Whitworth Art Gallery focuses on collecting modern art, with a collection of over 55,000 items that is rich and diverse, making it a paradise for appreciating modern art. The museum’s holdings include historical fine art, works on paper, modern art, textiles, wallpapers, and sculptures. Among the historical fine art, the emphasis is on prints and watercolours from the 18th to 19th centuries, most of which were donated by Joseph Whitworth. The modern art collection features predominantly works on paper, primarily showcasing landscapes, cities, and urban environments, mainly by British artists from the early to mid-20th century. While most museums have very limited wallpaper collections, the Whitworth Art Gallery boasts a vast collection of around a thousand types, earning it international acclaim. Various themed wallpapers displayed in the galleries showcase the boundless creativity of their makers.

The Whitworth Art Gallery houses the largest textile collection in the UK outside of London, with approximately 20,000 textile pieces dating from the 3rd century AD to the present, second only to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
