Bolton is a major town in Greater Manchester, Northwest England, located next to the West Pennine Moors and about 16.1 km northwest of Manchester. Surrounded by several small villages that together form the Bolton metropolitan area, Bolton is the largest and most populous town and also the administrative center.

Bolton Museum is one of the most prominent local attractions. Opened in 1939, it serves as both a public museum and an art gallery, featuring exhibits spanning art, entomology, geology, and local natural history—making it the ideal place to learn about Bolton. The beautiful Bolton Parish Church, built in 1871, is a fine example of Victorian Gothic architecture. The Bolton Steam Museum houses the largest collection of working steam engines in Greater Manchester. In addition, the grand Bolton Town Hall is particularly spectacular, where visitors can also explore the Albert Hall, Festival Hall, and Memorial Hall.
