Salford

Salford is a city in the United Kingdom, located in the Greater Manchester metropolitan area. It developed into an industrial city and inland port during the 18th and 19th centuries, and is now an important cultural and educational hub. The city is home to the University of Salford, where the world’s first free public library is located.

Compared to Manchester, Salford has fewer Grade II listed historic buildings, but it boasts a range of classic and modern structures, as well as some truly unique ones. Ordsall Hall is a historic manor that was once a Tudor-era mansion, with a history of over 750 years—the oldest parts dating back to the 15th century—and it has served many purposes, including as a club, a school, and a radio station. Salford Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church built in the Neo-Gothic architectural style, and in 2002, an organ was installed inside. The Salford Museum and Art Gallery, opened in 1850, focuses on telling the city's history and showcasing Victorian art and architecture.
