Leigh

Leigh is a town in Greater Manchester, in the northwest of England, located 12 kilometers southwest of Wigan. Originally an agricultural area, it became known for its dairy industry, and its economy now mainly relies on retail.

The town’s landmark is Leigh Town Hall, which began construction in 1904, opened in 1907, and was listed as a Grade II* listed building in 1987, featuring Edwardian Baroque architecture. St Mary’s Parish Church has existed since the 12th century, with its tower built in 1516 and showcasing medieval architectural elements. Other notable sites include St Joseph’s Church, St Thomas’s Church, and the Leigh War Memorial. The city also boasts numerous theaters and cinemas, greatly enriching the cultural life of its residents.
