Valladolid

Valladolid is situated on the Pisuerga River in central Spain. It serves as the seat of the government of the Castile and León autonomous community and is the capital of Valladolid Province. The city gradually rose to prominence in Spain during the 11th century, and by the 15th century, thanks to the importance of its university, Valladolid flourished to its zenith. It even served as the capital of Spain twice. Today, it stands as one of Spain’s most significant industrial cities.

Valladolid’s old town preserves a wealth of historic houses, palaces, churches, squares, streets, and parks, where modern urban life blends seamlessly with ancient monuments. The heart of the old town is the 16th-century Plaza Mayor, adorned with statues of notable figures and adjacent to the City Hall. There is also a building dating back to the early 20th century. Visitors can explore landmarks such as the Royal Palace, the Lope de Vega Theatre, the National Sculpture Museum, and the Christopher Columbus Museum, the latter being the residence of the Italian navigator Columbus in his later years.
