The Utrecht University Botanical Gardens are located in the heart of the province of Utrecht. Construction began in 1963, and over time, many plant species have been added. The gardens consist of two sites, the most notable being the Fort Hoofddijk botanical garden within Utrecht University.

This botanical garden is a unique natural treasure trove, home to thousands of plant species. Especially during the blooming season, the gardens are a riot of colors, offering a glimpse of nature’s full palette. It is estimated that the Utrecht University Botanical Gardens house over 6,000 plant species. Over the course of more than 350 years, these plants have been used for scientific research or seed exchanges with botanical gardens around the world. Some of the plants are extremely rare and even classified as endangered species. While providing enjoyment for visitors, the gardens also strive to protect these precious species.

The gardens are not very large in area but are remarkably rich in species — dozens of plant varieties can be found within just a few square meters, offering visitors an eye-opening experience. The gardens regularly host themed exhibitions, such as weekend orchid shows, plant sowing and growth displays, and tropical butterfly exhibits, attracting many nature enthusiasts.
