Vercelli

Vercelli is a city in the Piedmont region of northern Italy and the capital of the Province of Vercelli. It is one of the oldest cities in northern Italy, founded around 600 BC. Located on the banks of the Sesia River, it is an important center for rice cultivation and is also home to a campus of the Polytechnic University of Turin.

Vercelli boasts many Roman-era ruins, such as an amphitheater, a circus, sarcophagi, and numerous significant inscriptions, some of which are Christian. The magnificent Vercelli Cathedral, renovated in the 9th century, houses many precious paintings, especially works by Gaudenzio Ferrari. The cathedral museum contains the famous early English manuscript known as the Vercelli Book, along with other ancient manuscripts.

The Basilica di Sant'Andrea, built in the 13th century, along with the ancient Cistercian monastery, is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved Romanesque sites in Italy. In addition, Vercelli is the host of the Viotti International Music Competition, which attracts attention from world-renowned musicians.
