Former Site of Shanxi Private Jinsan School

The former site of Shanxi Private Jinsan School is a cultural relic protection unit of Taiyuan City.

The former site of Shanxi Private Jinsan School is located at No. 3 Xueyuan Road, Huagong Community, Shanglan Subdistrict Office, Jiancaoping District, within the campus of North University of China, covering an area of 462.48 square meters. Shanxi Private Jinsan School was founded in 1922. In 1923, the Socialist Youth League branch was established at Jinsan Middle School, and in 1925, an underground Communist Party branch was set up. From then on, the school became increasingly active in revolutionary activities such as spreading Marxism, carrying out struggles, and developing party organizations, establishing itself as a school with a proud revolutionary tradition. Ji Tingzi, Mao Yuan, Zhao Erlu, Cheng Zihua, Pei Lisheng, Song Shaowen, Zhao Zongfu, Niu Yinguang, Hu Xiaoqin, Wang Kewen, Shi Jinian, Wang Darun, and Wang Xiujin all studied at Jinsan Middle School in their early years and subsequently joined the Communist Party of China. The school was closed after the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan in 1937. It reopened in Xixian County, Shanxi Province, on October 29, 1941. In 1945, after the victory of the war, it moved back to Taiyuan. In 1941, after Zhao Zongfu took charge of the school’s administration, the underground party organization gained control of the school. During the Liberation War, under Zhao Zongfu’s leadership, Jinsan Middle School faculty and students including Qiao Ya, Liu Xin, Liang Weishu, and Han Jianmin actively collaborated with the “909” intelligence station to gather military intelligence on Yan Xishan’s forces. Qiao Ya, Liu Xin, Liang Weishu, Han Jianmin, Wei Jixiang, Li Jiantang, Li Xiangrui, Shang Mianzhan, and Li Xinping were executed by Yan’s forces and gave their lives for the liberation of Taiyuan. In 2001, a bronze statue of Zhao Zongfu was erected at Jinsan Middle School. The former site faces south and originally had over thirty school buildings. Today, only one surviving building remains—a gable-and-hip roofed tile house with an I-shaped layout, featuring arched windows and round-arched doors.
