Los Katíos National Park is located in the northwest of Colombia, covering an area of 72,000 hectares, including many low hills, forests, and swamps. Some rare species have been discovered here, and the park has become home to most endangered animals and endemic plants. The park features hills, wetlands, and forests, where wildlife is highly diverse and distribution varies significantly, providing habitat for several endangered species.

Manatees, wild dogs, foxes, jaguars, red lions, bears, wild rats, and howler monkeys are relatively common within the protected area. In addition, more than 400 species of birds inhabit the park, among which the white hawk, mocúz preñadito, and two species of hummingbirds are frequently seen. There are also over 60 species of fish living in the water bodies, such as river and sea rays. The park hosts many Central American fauna groups as well as locally endemic species. It has been recorded that Los Katíos National Park is home to 450 bird species and 550 species of vertebrates. Endangered animals include manatees, giant anteaters, and the Central American tapir. While exploring Los Katíos National Park, visitors can enjoy varying landscapes across different sections; they can also take a canoe trip down the Atrato River and drift through the Tumaradó swamp area, observing manatees and turtles in their natural habitat.
