Historic Centre of Santa Cruz de Mompox

The Historic Centre of Santa Cruz de Mompox is a typical colonial town along the main waterway, playing a significant economic and strategic role in the formation of the modern nation. Mompox was founded in 1540 on the banks of the Magdalena River and held an important position during Spanish rule over the Americas. From the 16th to the 19th century, the city gradually developed parallel to the river, with some main streets serving as riverbanks.
