The Cano • Cristales River is located in the Meta Department of southeastern Colombia, South America. Stretching approximately 100 kilometers in length and about 20 meters in width, it has been hailed by many adventurers as the “river that flows from heaven.”

The Cano • Cristales River is renowned as the most beautiful river in the world due to the vast variety of algae and mosses of different colors growing on its riverbed. These organisms cause the river to display a range of hues—including green, blue, black, red, yellow, and more complex gradient shades—in different sections. The crystal-clear water reflects the colorful mosses on the riverbed, creating a kaleidoscopic effect as it flows into pools, making it a spectacular and breathtaking sight. This is why the river is also known as the Five-Color River or the Rainbow River.

Naturally, such a stunning river attracts the attention of many travelers. However, visitors should note that the rainbow-like phenomenon of the Five-Color River is not visible year-round. During the dry season, water levels are too low to sustain widespread algae growth, while during the rainy season, the force of the water is too strong and washes away the riverbed's algae. As a result, the river only displays its vibrant colors between June and September—the transitional period between the dry and rainy seasons. Moreover, reaching this river is no easy feat. Due to poor local infrastructure, there aren’t even any roads, so you must travel by horseback, on foot, and choose the right time to witness the magic of this extraordinary river.
