Santa Ana Bay

Santa Ana Bay was the capital of the parish of Saint Ann and the third capital established by Spain in the Americas. It is well known as the place where the great Italian navigator Christopher Columbus first landed in 1494. Later, during his fourth voyage, he was stranded in Santa Ana Bay for an entire year.

In the center of Santa Ana Bay stands a statue of the great navigator Christopher Columbus, commemorating the discovery of Jamaica. The name of Santa Ana Bay comes from the area’s vast and beautiful bay. Upon his first visit, Columbus was deeply captivated by the scenery of the bay and called it a "beautiful paradise."

The bay of Santa Ana is very expansive and suitable for transportation, with a large volume of imports and exports passing through here. The renowned Jamaican Black leader Marcus Garvey was born in this area. His statue stands in front of the Santa Ana Bay Library to commemorate his significant contributions to the Black community.
