Rocklands Bird Sanctuary was established by a woman named Lisa, who moved to the area where the sanctuary now stands in 1954. Because of her love for nature, she often fed the local birds and was given the title “The Bird Lady.” She regularly visited the diverse array of birds in the area and decided to create a bird sanctuary. Eight years later, her dream became a reality when the publicly accessible Rocklands Bird Sanctuary was established.

Rocklands Bird Sanctuary is home to 252 species of birds, 24 of which are rare and can't be found anywhere else. Visitors can observe the birds up close, especially Jamaica’s national bird — the hummingbird. Starting at 3:30 p.m. each day, tourists are allowed to enter the feeding area, where they can personally feed birds that land on their hands. By 4:30 p.m., hundreds of birds gather, creating a breathtaking sight. Being surrounded by numerous birds as they cheerfully sing to you is also a delightful experience—you might even be dazzled by their lively presence.
