Located on the southeastern coast of Jamaica, Kingston is the capital and largest city of the country, as well as its principal port. Founded by the British, the city has developed rapidly since the late 17th century, was established as a city in the early 19th century, and became the capital of Jamaica in 1872. The most well-known parks include Emancipation Park, Hope Gardens, National Heroes Park, St. William Grant Park, and Mandela Park.
