Introduction

The Supreme Federal Court of Brazil is located in Brasília. In front of the building stands a statue of a figure holding a sword while blindfolded, symbolizing equality before the law.

Brazil’s capital, Brasília, is a young and modern city. It was constructed as a new capital from scratch in the wilderness over a period of just over three years between 1956 and 1960. The city has no ancient ruins or monuments, nor does it boast the hustle and bustle of a metropolis. However, its modern urban planning, creatively designed architecture, and richly symbolic artworks have made this new capital world-renowned. On December 7, 1987, Brasília was designated a “World Cultural Heritage” site by UNESCO, becoming the youngest among the many splendid cultural heritages of the world.
